Study life at all scales in our controlled desert garden, laboratories, greenhouse facility, and marine aquarium alongside experienced scientists in the Biological Sciences Department.

Successful completion of this degree, the secondary education (SET) program, and the required PRAXIS exams allows students to obtain the Biological Sciences Endorsement and certifies the student to teach high school biology courses.

Our Mission

The Biological Sciences Program at UT prepares a diverse population of undergraduate students for future careers and challenges in medicine and biology. Our students are provided with the opportunity to explore the science of life in all its diversity, complexity and wonder. We aim to produce students who are willing to face the biological and environmental challenges posed by our fast-paced modern world and who are motivated to solve such problems. Together with our highly-educated and teaching-centered faculty, students engage with a variety of lecture, laboratory, online and field experiences that are designed to stimulate curiosity and teach the principles of science, reason, problem-solving and innovation.

Program Learning Outcomes

Outline the foundational concepts of biology including cellular, organismic, ecological, and evolutionary biology.
Evaluate hypotheses, design research, test hypotheses, conduct data analysis, and draw conclusions on biology related problems.
Integrate knowledge of scientific literacy in oral and written assignments when communicating biological topics.
Evaluate information to discriminate between science and non-science.
Develop an understanding of why science is an integral activity for addressing social and environmental problems.
