WELCOME TO THE BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES DEPARTMENT AT DIXIE STATE UNIVERSITY!

Whether it’s curing disease, feeding the world, or saving a local endangered species, our students are making their mark on the world in dramatic ways. Study life at all scales in our controlled desert garden, laboratories, greenhouse facility, and marine aquarium alongside experienced scientists in the Biological Sciences Department.

Our students are trained to succeed in careers in basic and applied scientific fields and in medical fields. Each degree emphasizes hands-on learning throughout engaging courses and research opportunities. We produce leaders who are not only skilled but also passionate about earning a degree that will help them pave their own path to success.

Program Learning Outcomes

  • Outline the foundational concepts of biology including cellular, organismic, ecological, and evolutionary biology.
  • Evaluate hypotheses, design research, test hypotheses, conduct data analysis, and draw conclusions on biology related problems.
  • Integrate knowledge of scientific literacy in oral and written assignments when communicating biological topics.
  • Evaluate information to discriminate between science and non-science.
  • Develop an understanding of why science is an integral activity for addressing social and environmental problems.
